Location Information from the OzRunways and RWY apps
The 'Traffic' services in OzRunways or RWY → Settings → Traffic, will send a position report to our servers so, while you are flying, other OzRunways and RWY users may see where you are on a map relative to their position to increase safety and situational awareness. If you are not flying (defined as speed > 70kts or above 200 ft), we send a random position within 60nm of your location to protect your privacy. This randomised position is dropped by our server and not shown to any other user. Your live airborne location will be shared with other users including:
Live information sent to other copies of OzRunways and RWY to display your position on their map and on tx.ozrunways.com (the purpose of the feature!),
Emergency services (SAR e.g. AMSA) and accident investigation organisations (e.g. ATSB) for the purposes of aviation safety, and
Where required by law with appropriate warrants/orders.
We will not give your historical position information to CASA (or other foreign government agencies) without court order or where required by law.
We will not permit other companies or commercial entities to use your position data for their own purposes.
We will not provide traffic data or any other information to insurance companies or investigators.
Additionally, you cannot view other users' traffic information without sending your own (or an approximate) position (this is required for technical reasons). The historical data will be retained for up to 60 days but may be retained for longer periods in our offline server archives/backups. If you would not like this information to be collected, you can turn off traffic in OzRunways → Settings → Traffic.
